A Lion was sleeping in his cave when a Mouse ran over his face and woke him up. He lost his temper, caught it with his paw and was going to kill it. The Mouse wanted him to spare its life. "Please let me go," it cried, "and one day I will repay you for your kindness." The idea that such a small animal could do anything for him made the lion laugh. He was thinking for a moment and then he decided to let the Mouse go. However, one day the Lion got caught in a net which had been put there by some hunters. The Mouse heard and recognised his roars of anger and ran to the place. Immediately, it began to bite the ropes with its teeth, and finally it managed to set the Lion free. "There!" said the Mouse, "you laughed at me when I promised I would repay you: but now you see, even a Mouse can help a Lion."
